Taking
A Walk On The Wild Side!
When we set
out to make a few changes to our menu at the beginning of this
year, we made sure that we spent some time thinking about
all the customer input we receive regularly. Customers have several
ways of easily contacting us to express their opinions and we’re
happy you use them! Our website’s “Contact Us”,
Empathica, (an online survey we employ) and this e-blast are
the three primary ways. Comments that our counter servers and
store managers hear directly from customers are captured the
old fashioned way—we ask.
Along
the way, we realized that Flying Star has a split personality.
On the one hand, we have one foot
in our coffee house roots and one foot in our café/restaurant
persona. Although both share foodservice similarities, each couldn’t
be more different. Our coffeehouse side requires great coffee,
of course, free Wi-fi and a relaxed kind of vibe—sit down
and stay awhile. It also requires good, inexpensive food and simple

items.
Our café side allows us to cook on the wild side,
experimenting with more complex recipes and interesting flavors.
This, of course, costs more to make and is thus more expensive.
Both sides of our personality are equally successful but
we still haven’t figured out which side dominates.
With
this in mind, we tried to balance both sides of our brain
to make sure we have a few more affordable options. Check
out the Rise & Shine, offered at $5.99, our newest breakfast – all – day
sandwich. You can now get the Ranch Breakfast split in half
for $5.99 as well. For $7.99 you can now have a half “Cool” sandwich
with your choice of salad or soup or a salad/soup combo.
And, check out our “Lite Bites” section on the
menu. There are great sides to mix and match. Look for price
adjustments on our Mac and Cheese, Huevos Rancheros and Country
Breakfast to help you out during this recession. You asked
us for help, we heard you. |

On our wild side,
we went a little crazy over the Spaghetti and Broken Meat Balls,
which is enormous and to die for (PS this really is a recipe
from my childhood neighbor). The Tamale Pie is way delicious
and very filling. The Meat Loaf Plate was so popular that it
has earned its place on our permanent menu. Watch for many more
tasty and over the top specials in upcoming months.
Update: we
were blown away by the amount of positive responses to the
Little Luxuries pastries. Chef Willem is taking a little
more time to create these gems to insure they are worth waiting
for. April is our target date. Needless to say, it’s been
fun hearing from you all! |
